She's reported on sports for some of some of the most prominent media around the globe. She spent nearly a decade in the Washington Post. The Washington Post covering football, basketball, multiple Olympics as well as Grand Slam Tennis. Nichols spent nine years at ESPN which was where she earned the network two Emmy Awards. The Monday Night Football coverage as an official reporter was a one of the areas she worked with the network. After she left ESPN, her next destination was CNN as well as Turner Sports. Unguarded was a program that she produced and hosted, was telecast every week on CNN International. The show drew over one billion viewers across all over the globe. Nichols worked as a journalist for TNT at the time, reporting on NBA broadcasts such as playoff games, regular season games or All-Star teams. The reporter also reported on baseball, golf and Final Four broadcasts for CBS as well as TBS. This is the first occasion in the award's 42 year tradition that a woman has been selected from the over 200 candidates.
