She was initially inspired by the shadows that were cast onto grass. Months later, she developed a method that did not make the subject on the canvas as an image that was flat. The chosen subject transforms into an image. This is particularly true with living objects or objects that die, such as fruit or humans. Alexa's painting style is ephemeral, and the only thing left of Alexa Meade's work is her photo. As the photographic and painting techniques are coordinated so closely, the end result is the trompe-l'oeil effect in which the illusion of three dimensions is only visible at certain locations, like the eye area or hair. Meade frequently integrates her paintings in the 3D world that surrounds her. They are able to interact with the world she has created for herself. The lines between performance, photography, installation and painting are thus dissolved.
